Global Smart Cities Week Panel on Data-Driven Citymaking

Last week, I had the pleasure of speaking at Global Smart Cities Week, where I joined an international panel of data-driven, smart citymakers to discuss how we can leverage the power of data to create more livable, equitable, and sustainable places throughout the world - and how Covid has made the need for a more data-driven approach that much more critical, given that now more than ever, we must ensure our citymaking frameworks and processes are cost-efficient, effective, and inclusive!

Throughout the panel, I discussed how State of Place’s data and predictive analytics platform is tapping into our new machine-learning driven automated data collection to help to address and mitigate spatial inequities that have ravaged vulnerable communities throughout our nation’s cities that have been exacerbated by Covid. I was joined by Emily Yates, Smart City Director City of Philadelphia and State of Place customer! She explained how State of Place is using data to help City officials take new, different, micro-scale data in, and use it to inform how the city can become more racially equitable when using its resources for urban planning and development, and translate this data into actionable solutions regardless of budget constraints. We also discussed the ability of State of Place to address overlapping interests across multiple City departments, including public health, parks & recreation, the office of violence prevention, and even the budget office, which helped to justify the city spend. We also got to hear from Michael Northey, Project Officer of Place Services for the City of Parramatta, and Andrea DiGiovanni, Strategic Projects Lead for Neighbourlytics - both based in Australia - on how they’re using social data to better understand place and place performance in a behavioral context in an effort to uncover disparities in health and well being down under! Our panel was moderated by the amazing Lucinda Hartley, co-founder and Chief Growth Officer of Neighbourlytics.

You can catch the recording here for just TODAY through midnight - you can register for free to gain access. Go to the “Auditorium” and find us under the November 10th lineup!
