Designing for Green Time - Why It’s Critical for Health Equity & Spatial Justice

A few weeks ago, I had the absolute pleasure and honor to join two of my former University of California, Irvine alumni (and some of my best besties) - Dr. Lindsay Malloy (developmental psychologist) and Dr. Genevieve Dunton (health psychologist) - on the Pandemic Parenting Podcast (co-hosted by Dr. Malloy) to discuss the concept of “green” time (vs. screen time). Specifically, we explored how the design of our neighborhoods influence our ability to spend time outdoors, safely and conveniently, and in turn, how that impacts our health, physical, mental, and otherwise. We also spoke about the need for equitable access to safe and healthy places to ensure spatial justice and provided some actionable steps you can take now to make that happen within marginalized communities.

I hope you enjoy this much-needed dose of SCIENCE and evidence-based advice about the need for green time and how best to integrate that into your and your communities’ lives!
